Over a decade ago, this song was written and recorded with the express purpose of being a 'test song' for my new DAW. Mike Wilding's harmonica track is actually from that demo session, and everything else is re-recorded.
Performing this song with my band The Stoics helped shape the arrangement that you hear on this recording, including bolder bass guitar, a full drum kit part, piano, and a wilder transition out of the bridge.
As nonsensical as the lyrics are, this has always been one of my favorites of my own stuff.
lyrics
Let's go photograph
take off your flashes
swill to the gashes
and put out your smoke.
Let's go photograph
show me your answer
played me a lancer
and then I awoke.
Come on sister,
track me a porter
glam to the hoarder,
the water is ice.
Come on sister,
write me a birthday,
nothing is worth pay,
litter the dice.
Let's go photograph
pull at my clothing
the gift is the loathing
that comes with the fear.
Let's go photograph
say that you meant it
the sorrow that leant it
is gone by the year.
Your machine is broken
and you haven't looked inside.
Let's go photograph
flash me on in
bring me the pin
and label the stroke
Come on sister,
you're such a headcase.
I never said grace,
and then I awoke.
